Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea)
filed in General on Aug.27, 2009
A tiny, long-tailed bird of deciduous forests and scrublands, the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher makes itself known by its soft but emphatic "spee" calls and its constant motion. By flicking its white-edged tail from side to side, the gnatcatcher may scare up hiding insects.
I was lucky to get these two shots …. these little guys never sit still for over a second or two. Not the best shots but I was so happy to see one of these lovely little birds. I did see a couple of them in early spring but this is the first sighting since then. These were taken at Dolan’s Lake.
